Faces of a Family Project
2024
It all began with an idea. I wanted to launch a business that involved spending time with people. I wanted to turn my hobby into something more. I had a creative project to share with the world and that is how Objective Change Images by Collette started.
Faces of a Family is a way I can share the story of the uniqueness and diversity of what makes a family unit. Sharing with the world, the project aims to dispel societal stigmas on family units and celebrate the diversity around us. The Faces of a Family project captures the essence of the family unit, the connection they have together, and with the environment and therefore acknowledge the diversity that the 21st Century brings.
Together we can make a difference
Objective Change Images by Collette is indebted to the Faces of a Family participants; from those who expressed interested through to those who had to endure repeat shoots. I can’t thank you enough for your patience and support.

Māmā found her missing pieces. This couple are grounded by their little Ūkaipō but these new parents are still hard to pin down, they have gypsy like tendencies and love the natural world. Climbing to the highest mountain, ngahere and fishing in the sea taking pēpi girl along for the ride. Māmā and Pāpā love you with all their heart.
This American Mom and Kiwi Dad are rooted in New Zealand enriching the lives of their children with American and kiwiana life and traditions. They say; we've had 5 children in 5 years which has created quite the chaotic life. Although at the moment we are still in a season of divide and conquer, we have also worked really hard inside and outside our home to give them a fun and energising place to grow up. Taking time to give them unique and special little moments rather than big over the top gestures seems to keep us all going strong together and individually.
Māmā is not out of the woods with her high-risk pregnancy, but big brother is celebrating what is to come for this family of 3 finally becoming 4. They take day by day and celebrate week by week. Māmā wrote; Before I carried you, I carried pain. Before that I carried pain, love and pure joy. I carry you all deep within my heart

A cherished moment in time celebrating 50 years of life, love and family connection. They say; Family is our greatest joy and happiness is our greatest achievement. I had lots of laugh with this bunch reminiscing over past memories from this very place. A special shoot for me because I was their flower girl!
Waiting for pēpi to arrive. This young couple wanted to embrace the last few of weeks of their unborn safely nestled within mamā. A week after this image was taken a beautiful 9lbs 8oz baby girl graced their world.
Māmā says; Never in my biggest and wildest dreams would I have thought that creating a family would be the hardest but most rewarding journey of our lives. Unconditional love is the glue that keeps us together.
These American-Kiwi adoring dog parents have children and grandchildren on the other side of the world, but the wee doggo was introduced into the family here in New Zealand. Dog Mama says; the wee she devil hails from Whangārei and is treasured. Her top trick is shaking a paw and her favourite snack is cheese!
Bolt out of the blue! You never know what colour hair this mumma will have! Music, movies and Halloween is a must for this family. Mama says; warmth, love and safety of being able to let your walls down is the foundation for love and respect in our family, always.

What do you get when you take a Māori Wahine and a young gentleman? You get the most treasured taonga. Time passes and that taonga gets a bonus māmā and two brothers. More time passes and one of those brothers gains a wife, an extended family and a new culture. That entire whānau collectively get another taonga but they never ever forget their first sparkly taonga who is no longer earthside..
It's always better when we're together - This family of four has special connections with this maternal land, it is a place where the couple were married.
Family for this Gee Gee & Poppa is both natural and chosen. Not everyone who is family to these three is represented in this image but all are deeply nestled in their hearts.
This mum was recently diagnosed with AUDHD and describes herself as the luckiest mum in the world. Her eldest child has an extra chromosome, her youngest is under a developmental team and the middle child is showing signs of higher than normal IQ. She is also the light that shines over all of them. The biggest smile and brightest eyes, and the one who looks out for her siblings. Mama says; In diversity there is beauty and there is strength, lack of verbal communication is no barrier for us and how we relate to each other.
We're complete! - ‘Meet George Jetson’ comes to mind from the 1960’s cartoon The Jetsons. Not quite living in the sky or have the luxury of a 3 day working week! This family sacrifice for each other. Mum has studied, had three babies and works fulltime as a teacher. Dad was a builder but is a now a full time architecture student…..maybe he is aiming for an utopian future?

Being a family means you will love and be loved for the rest of your life, says Māmā. This whānau embrace the beauty that surrounds them and enjoys the place they call home. Mama say, our special little friend joined our puzzle and has taught us so much about love and strength, just as much as we have taught him about the world. Soon enough their puzzle will be complete when special little friend becomes a big brother.
A uniting of culture and values. This Dutch-Māori explains that; I found love with this world wide travelled Filipino and she chose call Aotearoa her new home, where we can share our enjoyment of nature and the simple thing in life.
This māmā often gets told she has her hands full with this lot and her response is always; not as full as my heart! We have a lot love and laughter in our whare. Though not always together we have a strong sense of connection and a wonderful village full of whanaungatanga. This means the distance feels small even when we are not physically close.
A blended whānau. Two are his but very much hers, and one is all of theirs. The older siblings dote on the wee guy but Mummy says; he is the boss!
Mummy explains; After several years of infertility and struggles, we finally became the parents of Colton Matthew. We couldn't be more grateful for our golden haired little boy, who is full of life and joy, a little feisty but also super sweet. Colton Matthew, we love you, you are all our dreams come true.
